Fashion Week: Laura Smalls F/W 2010

Luxe- 2.19.10 6
Fashionistas alike pilled into New York City’s 20-story luxurious Plaza Hotel, Thursday to view the debut of Laura Smalls F/W 2010 collection.
The room was full of top fashion influential celebrities like Andre Leon Talley, Whoopi Goldberg, Amber Rose and Russell Simmons. Not only were power celebrities in attendance, the guest list was full of giant media editors from Vogue (American and Brazilian), WWD, People, Ebony and Uptown Magazine.

Smalls’, Andre Leon Talley’s protégé, women’s collection is strongly influenced by the film noir infusing sultry silhouettes with modernity for today’s lifestyle. From stylish cocktail dresses to sexy evening gowns, her style satisfies the very luxurious taste for an elegant look. With a range of muses like First Lady Michelle Obama and Amber Rose, Smalls offers a diverse collection. Featured on the covers of Vogue- November 2009, Style.com and Womens Wear Daily, Smalls is one of the newest designers featured during fashion week. With this being only her second collection showed during Fashion Week, fans and buyers can only quench their fashion desires by wanting to see more.

Walking in the room I felt like I was at a show in Paris, like celebrity stylist, June Ambrose mentioned on Twitter. The gold trimming walls had a very grand romantic feel like the Plaza Hotel is known for. From the chandler lightening to the art work on the ceiling, attendees could not be helped but drawn in by this ambiance. The show was very polished and consisted of heavy sponsors making Smalls’ collection pop even more. Hair was done by world renowned salon, Warren-Tricomi and make up was done by Andrew Sotomayor of Drama Free Makeup. Models had the chance to sport custom designed jewerly sponsored by Iradj Moini and shoes by Manolo Blahnik.
The fashion presentation was organized by one of New York’s premiere public relations firm, Connect the Dots Ent. Connect the Dots Ent. has sponsored past events for fashion week, Rhianna’s album release party and various events around the streets of NYC.
The outcome of the fashion show was overwhelming and caused people to stay around longer after the show. One of our favorite celebrity mothers, Janice Combs (mother of Diddy) was highly pleased with the collection. She said she cannot wait to receive her look book so she can start picking out pieces for the fall.

While in attendance, I also had the opportunity to snap a few shots and interact with the guests. I even ran into Project Duh’s friend, Ja’Maal Buster. Networking is a powerful tool in getting ahead in the industry and we’re taking our stakes here. I had a great time closing out fashion week- this was a great experience for Project Duh! *don’t be mad because it’s all about progression*
